Destination Information
Lima, Peru
Founded in 1535 by the Spanish 'Conquistador' Pizarro, Lima is the capital and largest city of Peru . It is located in the valleys of the Chillón, Rímac and Lurín rivers, on a coast overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Today Lima is a metropolis of over eight and a half million inhabitants. In the centre you can find various interesting sights, like the museum of Anthropology, the Gold museum, the catacombs of the San Francisco Church and the Plaza de Armas.
Machu Picchu was a religious centre built in the most inaccessible, wildest of country sides literally on the peak of a mountain. Both are awe inspiring and anyone who visits Latin America without seeing them both has had a wasted journey! We strongly encourage you to spend extra days in these magical places and fully enjoy one of the world's best destinations. www.peru.info/peru.asp
Santiago, Chile
Resting on an inland plain, with the Andes glimmering in the distance, Santiago, the capital of Chile, is the fifth largest city in South America. It is one of the most modern cities on the continent, home to nearly 5 million inhabitants - over a third of all Chileans.
Santiago is also the central point of a region filled with attractive sites and activities. Only 60 km away are the main South American ski centres, and the beautiful beaches of the Pacific are only an hour's drive to the northwest. Just south of Santiago lie the rich and beautiful vineyards of the Maipo Valley, one of the world's most esteemed wine producing regions. http://www.visit-chile.org/index.php?lang=eng
Buenos Aires, Argentina
Buenos Aires is the capital of the Republic of Argentina and the country's largest city. Located in front of the Río de La Plata, it is a modern, dynamic and radiant city that features the European architecture of its founders and absorbs the passion of its people; the Porteños" (people of the port).
Considered "The Pearl" of South America, Buenos Aires has an intense cultural life where tango, long coffee klatches and soccer are essential elements in its people daily lives.
The Recoleta is the most fashionable area in Buenos Aires to dine; it is adjacent to the Cementario de la Recoleta, Eva Peron's final resting place. Along with Evita's much-visited grave, there is Our Lady of the Pilar Church, the Cultural Center, and the Palais de Glace, a major gallery. http://www.turismo.gov.ar/eng/menu.htm
